Two-Headed Turtle

i got a two-headed turtle
named franz and mertle
one looks this way
the other looks that
it freaked out my mother
and upset my cat
i took it outside
just for a walk
and the whole neighborhood
started to talk
"give it time," the one turtle head said
"and soon they will see
pets with two heads is the way to be"
not less than one week later
at the zoo:
a two-headed alligator
two-headed dogs, cats, mice, a bird
a ferret named monkey with super
long fur
and how am i not to feel awkward
the freak genetic fad hit wonder
of the century
have not many a man lived with two faces
should we continue to monitor
random situations in these
far away places
